On her relationship with late husband Allen Ludden:
"I
think one of the things is that we kept the romance going. You don’t
want to settle in and take each other for granted. I would never just be schlumping around. When it was time for him to
come home, I’d go up and put a fresh face on and a fresh blouse and make
it important. He would do the same thing. So it is true. You do dress better when you are in love, but it is too easy to let some of the negatives creep in and push people farther and farther apart. You have to make the effort."
