"I think there is sense of freedom in dressing like you are in love. It's about getting up and getting your day started with a feeling of optimism. I don't really think about clothes much. Since we opened the store, it's important I'm comfortable and feel good in what I'm wearing. I dress for me and the image of the store, and it's about one's health and taking care of yourself. My fashion statement is about an active, healthy lifestyle, so I can leave the store, walk around the block and feel good.
In October 2011, Alison with her brother Alphonzo Cross, also pictured in photo, opened The Boxcar Grocer, an organic corner store to provide a traditionally African American neighborhood with healthy-food options. Visit The Boxcar Grocer, 249 Peters St. SW., 404-883-3608, www.boxcargrocer.com.
