How does a hoodie become so hated?

NBA star DeWayne Wade tweeted this photo of himself wearing a hoodie.

My friend and colleague Joey Guerra, who's also the music critic for the Houston Chronicle, wears hoodies often. In his Facebook profile photo, Joey appears proudly wearing a brown one. I know many people like Joey who love hoodies and wear them well. So that this simple piece of clothing has become a major part of the dialogue over the recent shooting death of black teen Trayvon Martin is beyond absurd. Fox's Geraldo Riveria has urged black and Hispanic families to keep their children from wearing hoodies so they don't become victims of unnecessary violence.

I have a better idea: why don't we teach love and tolerance, and not fear and hate, over and over until we all get the message.
